Investing in quality hair is more than buying a beautiful wig or bundles — it's an investment in a look you can enjoy for years.
With the right quality hair and proper maintenance, your hair can potentially last 3 years or even longer.
But here's the secret: expensive hair doesn't automatically last. Proper care does.
At Mbalee Beauty Collection, we believe that knowing how to care for your hair is just as important as choosing the right hair in the first place. Here is everything you need to know to keep your hair looking soft, healthy and beautiful for years to come.
1. Start With Quality Hair
The foundation of long-lasting hair is quality.
High-quality hair with properly aligned cuticles and good construction is much more likely to maintain its softness, movement and appearance over time. Before purchasing hair, consider:
- The quality of the hair (100% raw virgin human hair)
- The construction of the wig or bundles
- How the hair has been processed
- The reputation of the supplier
Cheap hair may look beautiful when brand new, but excessive processing can cause tangling, shedding, dryness and matting much sooner.
2. Don't Overwash Your Hair
Wigs and extensions don't receive natural oils from your scalp along the lengths of the hair, so excessive washing can contribute to dryness and loss of softness.
Instead, wash your hair when it genuinely needs cleaning — particularly after heavy product use, sweating or prolonged wear. For many installations, washing every 1–2 weeks is a great starting point.
3. Use the Right Products
Whenever possible, choose sulfate-free products designed for hair extensions or virgin hair.
Avoid constantly loading the hair with heavy oils, waxes and styling products. Product buildup can make the hair feel heavy, greasy and difficult to manage.
4. Always Condition Your Hair
Conditioning is essential for maintaining softness and manageability.
After shampooing, apply a good-quality conditioner through the lengths of the hair. Gently work it through and allow it to sit before rinsing thoroughly. For dry hair, an occasional deep-conditioning mask restores luster.
5. Be Gentle When Detangling
How you brush your hair has a major impact on longevity. Start at the ends of the hair and gradually work your way upward toward the roots using a wide-tooth comb or gentle detangling brush.
6. Protect Your Hair While Sleeping
Sleeping with loose hair against cotton bedding creates friction, leading to tangling and frizz. Before sleeping, secure hair in a loose braid or ponytail and protect it using a silk or satin bonnet, scarf or pillowcase.
7. Be Careful With Heat
Straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers can cause heat damage if used excessively. Always apply a heat protectant spray and keep heat settings below 200°C.
8. Limit Chemical Processing & Dyes
Repeated bleaching and coloring make hair fragile. If you want to color your hair, professional assistance is strongly recommended.
9. Store Your Hair Properly
When not wearing your wig, gently detangle it, ensure it's completely dry, and store it on a mannequin head or wig stand inside a dust bag away from direct sunlight.
